A Double Bill at The Lewdown Victory Hall June 2013

We have two comedy plays for your entertainment starting Thursday 6th  June 2013, playing again on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th with the curtain going up at 7.30pm on all three evenings at the Victory Hall, Lewdown.

During the interval we will be serving a FISH & CHIP SUPPER and you get all this for just £11 each!

Our first play is “WIFE REQUIRED” by Falkland L. Carey and Philip King. This is a farce in One Act, set in the 1950’s. Our second offering is “NONE THE WISER” by Anthony Booth and is set in a convent in the early 1970’s. Again this is an hilarious comedy and of course it will not be “CONVENTional”?

In Memory of Jack Hayer

It is sad to report that Jack Hayer died peacefully on September 7th 2012, aged 72 years. I have only known Jack since approximately 2001, but have got to know him much better over the last 7-8 years.

In 2006 the village of Bratton Clovelly put on the Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. Without Jack’s unending assistance with the Staging and Scenery, we would never have done it. From there, Jack went on to assist greatly with the Red Spider production that same year of “Like A Buoy”. After all his sterling work, Jack became a regular helper with the staging of the many Red Spider productions since.

In November 2010, he helped greatly with the special scenery for “Hollywood Comes to West Devon” and then again in the summer of 2011, Red Spider needed Jacks invaluable services to produce a table that would collapse when required, which he did most successfully. In the same production we even managed to get Jack to tread the boards. I don’t think anyone will forget that “cackle”!

At the beginning of 2012, Jacks health was not good, but he was very determined to put in an appearance to watch the Red Spider production of Cinderella and to meet with the many friends he had made within the company. It was a delight to see him there, holding court as everyone wished him well.

My lasting memory of Jack will be of him telling me off, in his “polite way”, for not using the right tool for the job or going up the ladder without securing it properly!!

JACK HAYER will be very sadly missed by all his friends in Red Spider and our sincerest wishes go to his daughter Victoria.

The Univited at Lewdown Victory Hall

Due to casting problems we have had to postpone the production of The Uninvited in November. This is very unfortunate as the cast have already put so much work into rehearsals. However we are rescheduling for March next year (2013). More information to follow as soon as we have cast and dates confirmed.

Our next production, The Uninvited by Dorothy Macardle, is a ghost story and mystery play.

The performances will be from Thursday 22nd till Saturday 24th of November 2012 at the Victory Hall, Lewdown, Larry Girling will Direct.

Ticket information will be available soon.

Seeking to escape the demands of London, Pam Fitzgerald and her brother, Roddy, an aspiring playwright, discover a charming house in the west of England, overlooking the Irish Sea. The house, Cliff End, has long been empty, and they are able to purchase it at a suspiciously low price from crusty Commander Brooke, the village curmudgeon. The reason is soon apparent: the house has an unsavory reputation. Fifteen years earlier a murder may or may not have occurred by the gnarled tree that can be viewed by the parlor window. Slowly the Fitzgeralds begin to sense the evil spirit that still inhabits the house, announcing its presence with a sudden, bone-chilling cold.
