The Wheel of Life: Stage version on hold

Dear Spiders, unfortunately we have not been able to cast or find enough people to support the production of Wheel of Life. So for the moment the stage version is on hold with the hope that the players can stage it at a later date.
In the meantime however, Anthony Richards had agreed to direct a radio version (with some adaptations) in the form of podcasts.
Jeff is happy to manage the recording and editing. This allows, those who don’t feel they can learn lines, to take part and enable flexibility for involvement to suit everyone’s timetables without prolonged rehearsal times.
It is also hoped that music and song will be included.
More information to follow post AGM and in the New Year.
Best wishes and season’s greetings.

Young Farmers Group Drama Competition – Director Producer Needed

We have been approached by a local Young Farmers Group, as they hope to enter a drama competition. They are looking for someone to direct/produce, but they do have plenty of willing actors. They are, however, lacking someone to pull it all together.
The first stage of the competition is in February 2020, and the chosen play needs to be 30 minutes duration, which must include setting up/ props etc. The cast must include a minimum of 8 actors, but other than that, the rules are flexible. They are thinking along the lines of something humorous.
So, is there a budding or an established director/producer who would like to guide and assist Young Farmers?
It would certainly be a “first’ for RSC, but could also lead to increased membership, especially younger people. Good publicity and goodwill never goes amiss!
Anyone interested? Indeed, it would be the sort of activity, where more than one Spider could be involved, sharing out the responsibilities.
Maureen Cooke, RSC Chairman.

“What are all those cars doing outside the village hall in Lewdown on a Saturday afternoon?”
“I’m not sure, but I think its something to do with Red Spider Company and a theatre workshop which they have organised for anyone interested in taking a look at theatrical goings on”. “ZIP, ZAP, BOING!”
“What on earth was that?” “Let’s go and have a look through the door – ooh, there are a lot of people all standing in a circle and they seem to be throwing an imaginary ball about between them. I suppose it is some kind of exercise to mirror the exchanges of dialogue on a theatre stage. Oh look! Now they are all walking about in different directions imitating weird ways of walking. I just heard someone say – I suppose it is their leader – the right way to play a drunk on stage is to imagine that you have just had 5 double brandies but are trying to show that you are perfectly sober. How interesting! That sounds like a lot of fun to me!”.
“There’s a poster on that notice board over there. Another workshop is to be held in Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall on 27 October at 2.30pm. Why don’t we go along? There seems to be plenty of opportunity to be physically active, participate in interactive exercises and confront the challenges of being on a stage. And that fellow who is leading things is inventive and has plenty of ideas. It says on the poster that we could even bring the children along too.”
“Check your diary, find someone to look after the dog, I’ll do the same, and let me know how you are placed. It might be fun to go along on 27 October which is a Sunday. Remember, its at 2.30pm in Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall. Give me a ring and we’ll see if we can go along”.
